This Teacher’s Guide was created by the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED), to help teachers engage students and their parents regarding the benefits of proper refrigerator recycling as well as ways they can help save energy and protect the environment. Led by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the ENERGY STAR Recycle My Old Fridge Campaign is a national call to action for consumers to recycle their old, inefficient refrigerators, and if needed, to replace them with new ENERGY STAR qualified models.

The NEED Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education association that provides professional development, innovative materials correlated to the National Science Education Content Standards, ongoing support and recognition to students and teachers nationwide. The mission of the NEED Project is to promote an energy-conscious and educated society by creating effective networks of students, educators, business, government and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs.
